Have you ever imagined a skull lying on the ground, but not the slightest smell of carrion smell. This is uniqueness graves in Trunyan Village, Bangli Regency, Bali. Corpses were not buried here, but it smelled fragrant. Trunyan which is one of the areas inhabited by indigenous tribes Bali or ‘’Bali Aga’’ who still firmly holds the belief of his ancestors. Bali Aga is the first tribe inhabiting the island of Bali. Until now Bali Aga tribe and all its uniqueness can still be found in the Trunyan village.

Balinese culture when there is a family dies, usually carried the remains were cremated or buried in accordance with taught by Hinduism. In Trunyan, the bodies were not buried or cremated as is generally the case in other regions. Trunyan’s society put dead bodies on the ground, covered with a cloth and bamboo are arranged to form a prism. Trunyan’s society call ceremony the funeral with the term “Mepasah”. Corpse unburied tradition has existed since hundreds of years ago. But the condition, the bodies must be intact and die normally, there was no injury or disease. Whether or not someone 'buried' in Trunyan also be seen from the good or bad behavior of the person's lifetime.

As mentioned above, that in Mepasah, after cleansing ceremony by means washed with rainwater, the corpse is simply laid on the ground. Where the laying of the bodies were holes about 10 to 20 cm so that the bodies are not shifted due to the contours of the burial ground uneven. Then in addition to the face, body parts corpse wrapped in white cloth. As a marker, the body covered with bamboo which is arranged to form a prism called “ancak saji”. What is unique is that although the bodies are placed at ground level, the bodies are not smelt.

The bodies placed on between the taru menyan, taru means trees and menyan means fragrant. fragrance of this tree that neutralizes the smell of corpses. This tree can only grow in this region, although it has been attempted grown in other regions. The uniqueness of this tree seems to have become the forerunner to the name of the village. According to legend, the scent of incense taru tree had hypnotized 4 brothers from Surakarta to navigate the land and sea to arrive at Trunyan. 4 brothers that consists of 4 men and the youngest female. On arrival at Trunyan eldest brother fell in love with the goddess of the tree watchman. After getting married, Trunyan into a small empire. Although the goddess has been married, Taru Menyan still emit fragrance. Due to fear of attack from the outside because the fragrance, the king ordered the people to remove the fragrance that by putting the corpse just above the ground.

Under one tree taru menyan, can only put a maximum of eleven bodies. It is set by local indigenous beliefs. But some say that the tree can only neutralize eleven bodies, so if more than that then the bodies will emit a foul odor. When there are new bodies, then the oldest one's body will be moved to the open, not covered with “ancak saji” again but combined with the other bodies in the structure of the rock or under a tree. so that it contains the bones and the provision of goods such as footwear offerings, spoons, dishes, clothes, and others scattered in the cemetery area. It was intentional because there are items that should not be taken out of the area of the cemetery.

But not all the bodies can be treated the same as those already mentioned. Only in certain circumstances the bodies may be buried like this.
